GMC Sierra 2500HD - Vortec engine - Brief Article

his is more a story about an engine than a truck. The all-new Vortec 8100 Big Block V-8 is a heavy haulin', fast runnin', smooth-as-silk power plant with horsepower to spare. With 340 hp at 4200 rpm, it is the most powerful gasoline engine on the market. For heavy haulin' this is the one --90 percent of its peak torque is available from 1700 rpm to 4300 rpm. A real plus is that the 8100 also provides four percent better fuel economy than GM'S former big block V-8.

Now I'm a truck guy, and drivin' a brute like the GMC 2500HD is a real pleasure. It wasn't long ago that a truck drove like a truck; this monster is actually comfortable. It's no news that pickup trucks have become more car-like in the past five years. But this one finds a nice balance between traditional trucker appeal and car-like amenities. From full leather seats to power everything, the HD delivers on every demand.

Sierra's tough-looking exterior is well suited to the task for which it was designed. Carrying itself proudly with a strong front grill statement as well a higher stance, the truck definitely stands out in a crowd
