Filling out its line of heavy-duty mortar mixers, Stone Construction Equipment Inc. has introduced two new models in its Champion mixer line. Both the 12 cu.ft. SM1200 and 20 cu.ft. SM2000 mixers are designed for compatibility with silo applications, but can also be used with bulk bagged mortar, grout, plaster or color mixers.
The Champion SM1200 is the smaller of the two silo models Stone offers and is suited to smaller silo applications such as large residential, industrial and commercial block. It has a bulk bag capacity of three to four bags.
The 20 cu.ft. SM2000 is a larger silo model ideal for use in large commercial and industrial jobs with silos holding 15,000 lb. or more of material, Stone said. The machine has a bulk bag capacity of six to seven bags.
A single-cylinder Honda GX390 gasoline engine rated 13 hp at 3900 rpm powers the mixers and is paired with a cyclone air cleaner to reduce the dust contamination common in mixer applications. The engine has a 389 cc displacement, low oil shutdown system, and the engine and other components can be accessed through a one-piece swing-away cowl. The engine drives a hydraulic system to power the mixer sections. Eaton hydraulic pumps are used to power high-torque White Drive Systems hydraulic motors. Parker hoses are integrated into the open-loop circuit, along with a 20 gal. baffled hydraulic tank, which features extra capacity for cooling. The hydraulics drive Stone's Power Blend system, which incorporates six steel mixing paddles in a triple-eight motion to produce consistent, uniform batches. The paddles can be operated at multiple speeds by adjusting the engine rpm.
According to Stone, the SM1200 and SM2000 silo mixers incorporate many of the features of its other Champion mixers, such as the patented quadruple seal and bearing system. The system, which carries a lifetime warranty, is encased in a removable housing designed for durability.
The SM1200 and SM2000 mixers are outfitted with adjustable legs, which can be positioned to fit under any size silo. The legs use an A-frame design for stability and strength, eliminating the need for outriggers, and can be adjusted by one person. They also provide stability during dumping into buggies, grout pumps, wheelbarrows or mortar tubs, Stone said.
Bi-directional fork pockets allow the mixers to be easily transported and maneuvered by lifts and forks. Dual lift cylinders assist in the dumping operation. Discharge height is 23 to 35 in. in the SM1200 mixer and 26 to 56 in. in the larger SM2000. Operating weight on the mixers is 1850 and 2300 lb.
The silo mixers also include a star-burst bag splitter to easily open mortar bags during bag batches. Mixing action, lifting/dumping speed and height controls on the mixers are situated on both sides of the cowl.
Stone produces its Champion silo mixers at its Honeoye, N.Y., facility. The company also has a range of 2 to 12 cu.ft, concrete mixers, 4 to 16 cu.ft. mortar mixers and a 12 cu.ft. hydraulic mixer.
