Generac's new 530 cc V-twin

The newest engine in Generac's OHVI engine range, now being sold to other manufacturers (see accompanying article), is the 530 cc model GT530. A 90[degrees] V-twin design, offered in both horizontal and vertical configurations, the GT530 is rated 16 to 18 hp.

"The GT530 brings all the benefits of an industrial V-twin engine to the outdoor power equipment market currently dominated by large single-cylinder engines," said Jay Sugar, vice president, sales, for Generac's Whitewater, Wis., headquartered engine program.

The new engine features a 90[degrees] V-twin design with low mass pistons and forged connection rods and joins the 760 cc GT760 and the 990 cc model GT990 at the top end of Generac's engine range. Those models are also available in vertical or horizontal crankshaft configurations.

The GT530 at 16 to 18 hp bridges the gap between the GT760 and GT990 with ratings from 22 to 33 hp and Generac's single-cylinder line with outputs from 5.5 to 15 hpAlong with building its own engines since 1991, the company has experimented with a variety of engine technologies and has, through the years, worked with any number of engine manufacturers gasoline, gas and diesel--and the company continues to buy engines outside the range of its own production. But even here, Generac adds its own stamp, typically sourcing long block configurations and trimming those out to their oven specifications.
