EDITORIALS: Campbell For No. 2

Mike Campbell, who is challenging incumbent Andre Bauer for the S.C. lieutenant governorship, is the son of former Gov. Carroll Campbell. He possesses his father's uncanny ability to focus on the issues that matter most to South Carolina and put his intellect to work in resolving them. Voters should leverage that ability on Tuesday.

Campbell, a Columbia businessman, would use the office as a bully pulpit for attracting high-quality jobs to South Carolina via intelligent use of state and local incentives to business. The office's only official duties are presiding over sessions of the S.C. Senate and overseeing the state Office on Aging - not exactly heavy lifting. So Campbell has hit upon a potentially productive use of the visibility that the office would afford him.

His concern about economic development stems from the fact that our state isn't moving quickly enough toward a knowledge economy
