Multiquip rolls in new compaction machine

Multiquip Inc., Carson, Calif., has added the Rammax P33/24FCP trench roller to its extensive line of compaction equipment. At 3197 lb., the new walk-behind roller is ideal for large soil compaction applications, offering manual as well as remote operation through a new hand-held cable control, the company said.

According to Multiquip, the P33/ 24FCR roller has a 15,652 lb. compaction force which can be operated at a 45% grade with vibration or a 55% grade without vibration. The roller can be configured with 24 or 33 in. drums and in either configuration allows for the manual or remote operation.

The roller is powered by a single-cylinder Farymann 43F diesel engine rated 14.5 hp at 2600 rpm. The air-cooled engine is nestled within an engine compartment that has been fitted with LED lights to alert of any diagnostic issues such as a non-performing component. Electrical circuits are accessed through a single removable panel.

Ground power and vibration are completely hydrostatic on the P33/ 24FCR roller using a single Kraft hydraulic pump to power both circuits. This pump drives four Sauer-Danfoss drive motors, two at each drum, which power the drum drive's roller gears, produced by Ramma

Operation of the roller is provided through manual operator controls which are tucked beneath a lockable cover on the machine's unibody frame. Operators also have the choice of using manual controls or a new hand-held cable control option that allows for remote operation of the machine. This puts operators at a safe distance from the machine without transmitting any vibrations, which Multiquip said is especially valuable in trenches where the P33/24FCR roller is typically used.

The hand-held control can be used in conjunction with a solar-powered transmitter, also found on other Rammax machines. The transmitter is run on a separate circuit as the hand-held control, allowing the machine to operate off the other circuit if one is down. The solar transmitter also does not require any recharging, Multiquip said.

The overall construction of the Rammax P33/24FCR roller uses a one-piece design with a single lift eye installed. This is part of the machine's unibody design that is a staple on the Rammax brand compaction rollers, said Multiquip. The lift eye is designed to allow the roller to be moved with out causing stress to the unit's flame or chassis.

Multiquip offers a full line of Rammax rollers in its compaction portfolio. The company distributes Rammax rollers to North America under a joint marketing plan with Ammann America. Under the agreement, which was formed in 2002, Multiquip and Ammann jointly promote each others' full line of rollers in North America to meet dealer and rental company requirements. Multiquip distributes the midrange and trench rollers while Ammann America supplies heavy equipment lines
