In-line Air Starter - Ingersoll-Rand Engine Starting Systems - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Ingersoll-Rand's Engine Starting Systems has introduced an in-line air starter specifically designed for the mining market. Also adequate for many marine and stationary applications, the company said, the new ST600 Pre-Engaged turbine starter was developed for large frame diesel engines ranging in size from 1000 to 12,000 cu.in. With nearly 18 months of trials on mine trucks, it has proven itself on a Cat 3412, a Cat 3516, a Detroit 16V, an EMD 16-645 and a Detroit 16-149. According to Ingersoll-Rand, the ST600 starter features an extended drive-housing pilot allowing for a single mechanic to install the starter while resting it in the flywheel housing. The tapered, 1 1/4 in. pilot sits tightly in the housing and supports the weight of the starter. Weighing 39 lb., the product delivers more than 300 ft.lb. of torque and produces up to 75 hp. The ST600 is available in half and full arc models allowing starter operation between 30 to 150 psi.
