UK filtration products plant gains ISO 14000

Donaldson Membranes' filtration products manufacturing plant in Hull has been awarded the environmental quality standard ISO 14000 and have also improved waste prevention measures.
Donaldson Membranes' manufacturing plant in Hull has been awarded the environmental quality standard ISO 14000. The Hull plant manufactures filtration products for a wide range of applications, including Donaldson Membranes' high performance Tetratex ePTFE membranes: Tetratex Release, Tetratex, Tetratex High Efficiency and Tetratex Ultra High Efficiency. These high performance laminates supply superior dust cake release, low pressure drop, higher air flow and high efficiency.

As a technology-driven company committed to satisfying customer needs for solutions through innovative research and development, Donaldson Company holds over 40 quality and environmental certifications in support of the customers and communities it serves.

Donaldson Membranes is especially dedicated to the aims of the environmental standards as they complement the business unit's products for: industrial filtration; pharmaceutical; microfiltration; fuel cell, medical; fine chemicals; food and plastics, and more.

Demand has never been higher for more efficient and effective media, as emissions of pollutant dusts and fumes into the environment and the workplace become subject to ever more stringent legislative control and scrutiny.

Donaldson Membranes' filtration products ensure that dust and fumes, toxic or not, are removed efficiently to protect health and the environment.

Also, the solid particulate carried in the gas or liquid flow often represents a useful or valuable product, which must be efficiently separated or filtered for final use or further processing.

Therefore protecting the environment is an area in which Donaldson Membranes has great expertise and quality standards such as ISO14000 are vital to the company ethos of 'green' product development.

The four-stage procedure to earn accreditation involves looking at the plant operation to see how each part of the process impacts on the environment, then implementing programmes to reduce power and waste, increase the amount of materials recycled, and use raw materials more economically.

Hull Plant quality manager Ian Metcalfe said: 'ISO14000 builds upon and complements ISO/TS16949:2002 which we were awarded last year.

We have now implemented further enhanced systems in compliance with government regulations, for example for waste disposal and reduction of landfill, and as a result have improved waste prevention measures, with better use of raw material and energy.

By meeting customer driven requirements Donaldson as a company benefits too, and our commitment to maintaining and attaining leading certifications underlines our reputation as an environmentally responsible company.'
