Automation firm builds technology centre

German company, Siemens Automation and Drives, is investing in a new Technology and Application Centre to house machine tools and production machinery for demonstrations and training.Siemens Automation and Drives (A and D) is investing in a new Technology and Application Centre at its Erlangen, Germany, site. The new development is to house machine tools and production machinery that will be available for demonstrations and training courses for mechanical equipment manufacturers and end users. Around EUR 9 million and 7,000m2 of gross floor space is being invested in a new Siemens centre for production machinery and training facilities.

The Technology and Application Centre at Siemens' Frauenauracher Strasse site in Erlangen is due to be completed in the Spring of 2007.

The mayor of Erlangen, Dr Siegfried Balleis, joined the head of the Siemens A and D MC Division, Dr Siegfried Russwurm, and Peter Prell of Siemens Real Estate Erlangen, to dig the first turf at the end of May 2006 and officially begin construction on the new development.

'We regard the new Technology and Application Centre as integral to consolidating and expanding our position as the global market leader in motion control solutions,' said Dr Russwurm.

Machine tools and production machinery are to be installed in the machine rooms for demonstrating and teaching Siemens' automation solutions.

'From a UK point of view, the Technology and Application Centre will provide a great facility for demonstrating our capability, and will also underline our commitment to the end users of our equipment, as well as machine builders and automation partners,' said Richard Urwin, head of the Siemens A and D MC Division in the UK.

The new building will allow both the mechanical equipment manufacturers' engineers and the users of machinery to receive training on the automation and drives solutions in special training facilities, and also directly at the machines.
